I understand people are lazy, I get it. Society feels the need to half-ass as much as possible, I get that. But one thing I've seen since I started college last August, is kids pissing away thousands of dollars to either half ass or not even try for their education.

Perhaps I care more because I am already twenty six and essentially paying for this myself, or maybe I just have more integrity than the average college student. Regardless, I cannot process the logic or reason behind wasting money, and four years of your life, if you aren't going to try. Tuition at this college is $24,100 per year (not figuring for the constant flux in tuition costs per year), course study fees are about $1,300-$1,500 per year. So right there, you're looking at about $25,600 PER YEAR. Now, let's assume someone is also planning on staying in the dorms and eating off a meal plan (which most students in my class do), that is an additional $7,600-$8,000 PER YEAR. This brings the grand total to a figure nearly $33,500 annually a student (or their parents) pays to attend here. Granted, there are more expensive schools, but this is neither here nor there. A BFA is costing $134,000 plus interest if any of that is being paid by loans.

$134,000! That could easily buy a car or even a house. Granted, an education is forever and these things are but material, either way the point is that's a lot of fucking money to just be dicking around getting drunk and waiting until the last minute to do your homework, only to turn it in either looking like shit, or late. Either way, it's a full letter grade deduction. I'm sorry, but I can't half-ass my way through anything, I have to at least try and in most cases, I am holding myself at a higher standard than the system. I feel as if I shouldn't care what other people are doing with their lives and I accepted a long time ago that people suck, but goddamnit wake the fuck up! Four years from now (if you make it that far) you are going to be kicking yourself in the ass when you are working at Taco Bell to pay off those loans and tuition fees for an education you threw away!

At least 10 Freshman have already dropped out and we're only halfway through the first semester! We have four years at this college. It's time to wake up and start singing for your supper. How do you think your parents would feel if they knew that their hard earned dollars were being spent so that their kids could go out every night, drink illegally and procrastinate, or not even turn in their homework? Why are you here? I challenge any college slacker to ask themselves this question. Because if all you are here for are the social perks, then go back home. You can do those same things in your own neighborhood without racking up a $134,000 bill in the process.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have homework to attend to.

Voting and the illusion of power

America is said to be a great country for many reasons: we can own guns, we have the right to free enterprise, free speech, religion, etc. The list goes on. While many things we can do make this country great, there is one privilege that is not what it seems, the right to vote.

Over the last decade or so, many social influences (mostly celebrities) have been pushing people to get out and vote, young Americans being the prime target. I cannot say one way or another if these people are a part of the system, or so heavily influenced by it that they are blind, but the "right to vote" is merely the "right to be controlled".

That's right, I said it, you're a slave. While any man that believes he is truly free is a fool, any man (or woman) that believes their vote matters is an even greater fool. The right to vote is a control, a false sense of power that pulls people to voting booths like lambs to the slaughter every election year.

Governments are a tightly woven system. Each one is built to function a certain way and usually with an ulterior motive designed to keep those in power where they are and the average citizen below their feet. Shifts in power mean potential shifts in control and functionality of the system. In order to assure the system remains intact, those who oversee the system need to ensure that those who are elected to office are intent on maintaining the system.

In the American voting system, there are two types of votes: Electoral and Popular. Electoral votes are made by the governmental Electoral Colleges. Your vote, that is the vote of the populous, makes up the Popular vote. The Popular vote is just that, a popularity contest. At the end of the election season, the Electoral vote is the determining factor in who goes into office. Your vote isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

The problem of course (unless you're in a position of power), is that people are sheep. 95% of the population is incapable of a free thought. People need to be led, while at the same time given the false sense of control. You are spoon-fed the idea that your vote counts and you swallow it like sugar. Children and adults alike are being brainwashed into yet another system of control.

Here is a perfect example of what I am trying to say. Election year 2000, it's Bush versus Gore. Gore wants to change the world and the system. But the people like him, and what's not to like? Bush on the other hand is a corporate control factor. He owns every oil field in Texas (at least a vast majority) and is in cahoots with other corporate influence, like Dick Cheney. He wants what is best for the system. So, despite the fact that Gore has the majority vote (even without Florida), Bush magically wins the election and we can now look forward to eight years of economic hell.

But you're going to vote anyway. I could hope this blog rattles your skull and gets you thinking, but that would be a pipe dream. However, while you're out voting I'll be at home essentially doing the same thing. The difference is when I get finished masturbating, I'm gonna have a little something to show for it.

Here's my advice: go for McCain, because either Obama is a very crafty liar, or he's not in it for the sake of the system. Either way, when McCain wins, you can feel even more empowered because your vote counts.
