I understand people are lazy, I get it. Society feels the need to half-ass as much as possible, I get that. But one thing I've seen since I started college last August, is kids pissing away thousands of dollars to either half ass or not even try for their education.

Perhaps I care more because I am already twenty six and essentially paying for this myself, or maybe I just have more integrity than the average college student. Regardless, I cannot process the logic or reason behind wasting money, and four years of your life, if you aren't going to try. Tuition at this college is $24,100 per year (not figuring for the constant flux in tuition costs per year), course study fees are about $1,300-$1,500 per year. So right there, you're looking at about $25,600 PER YEAR. Now, let's assume someone is also planning on staying in the dorms and eating off a meal plan (which most students in my class do), that is an additional $7,600-$8,000 PER YEAR. This brings the grand total to a figure nearly $33,500 annually a student (or their parents) pays to attend here. Granted, there are more expensive schools, but this is neither here nor there. A BFA is costing $134,000 plus interest if any of that is being paid by loans.

$134,000! That could easily buy a car or even a house. Granted, an education is forever and these things are but material, either way the point is that's a lot of fucking money to just be dicking around getting drunk and waiting until the last minute to do your homework, only to turn it in either looking like shit, or late. Either way, it's a full letter grade deduction. I'm sorry, but I can't half-ass my way through anything, I have to at least try and in most cases, I am holding myself at a higher standard than the system. I feel as if I shouldn't care what other people are doing with their lives and I accepted a long time ago that people suck, but goddamnit wake the fuck up! Four years from now (if you make it that far) you are going to be kicking yourself in the ass when you are working at Taco Bell to pay off those loans and tuition fees for an education you threw away!

At least 10 Freshman have already dropped out and we're only halfway through the first semester! We have four years at this college. It's time to wake up and start singing for your supper. How do you think your parents would feel if they knew that their hard earned dollars were being spent so that their kids could go out every night, drink illegally and procrastinate, or not even turn in their homework? Why are you here? I challenge any college slacker to ask themselves this question. Because if all you are here for are the social perks, then go back home. You can do those same things in your own neighborhood without racking up a $134,000 bill in the process.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have homework to attend to.
